Sealcoating in cold weather

A question JUSTRIGHT SEALCOATING will hear a lot this time of year is "how cold is to cold to sealcoat". I see sealcoating companies running several weeks or a month longer than JUSTRIGHT. Our personal guideline is as follows: If the temperature high for the day gets to or exceeds 50 degrees and the low will not drop under 32 degrees that evening we will sealcoat an crack fill. Any temperatures lower than that and we will ask that you call JUSTRIGHT in the spring. Year end driveway sealcoat specials are now available. When you contact us let us know you read our blog and we will sealcoat your driveway for 10 cents a square foot. 75 dollar minimum, crack fill is extra, and you must live in Shakopee, Eden Prairie, Prior lake, Chaska, Bloomington, Savage, Chanhassen, Carver, or Burnsville

The issue of placing hot mix asphalt in cold weather comes up every fall, winter and spring. Cold weather compaction depends upon having enough time and enough rollers to obtain adequate density while the temperature of the HMA mix being placed is still within the compaction temperature range of approximately 275-175 F.
